Outputs

Show your screens in OBS, vMix and other browser sources, or fullscreen on a connected display.

Each Kinetra screen is a web page. You can show it in two ways:

  • as a browser source in OBS, vMix or any other tool that can show a web page;
  • as a display output: fullscreen on a monitor, projector or video output connected to this computer.

Every screen has its own URL:

http://127.0.0.1:7770/screen/<screen id>

7770 is the project’s port. Copy the URL with the copy button on the screen’s card in Screens, on the Dashboard, or in the layout editor’s header.

The page has a transparent background and scales the screen to fit the browser source, so set the source to the screen’s size (for example 1920×1080).

Kinetra must be open with the project for the page to show anything. The page reconnects by itself when Kinetra is running again.

  1. In Sources, click + and choose Browser.
  2. Paste the screen URL into URL.
  3. Set Width and Height to the screen’s resolution.
  4. Click OK and move the source above your video.
  1. Click Add Input › Web Browser.
  2. Paste the screen URL and click OK.
  3. Use the input as an overlay.

Anything with a Chromium-based browser source can show a screen, for example CasparCG’s HTML producer. Use the same URL.

In Studio mode, each screen’s Preview is at the same URL with /preview at the end.

Add ?debug to the end of the URL, for example http://127.0.0.1:7770/screen/k3m9x2p7qa?debug. A small badge then shows connecting, connected, reconnecting or unknown screen. Without ?debug, the page never shows anything but your graphics.

By default, only this computer can open the screen URLs. To use them on another computer, for example an OBS machine on the same network:

  1. Open Preferences › Network & API › Server.
  2. Turn on Allow access from other devices on the network. Windows may ask once to allow Kinetra through the firewall.
  3. Use the address under On your network, such as http://192.168.1.20:7770/screen/….

When this is on, Kinetra copies the network URL instead of the local one.

The port is set per project in Preferences › Network & API › Server › Port (1024–65535, default 7770). If you change it, update the URLs in OBS or vMix.

A display output shows a screen fullscreen on a connected display, for example a projector, an LED wall or a video output card that appears as a display.

  1. Open Preferences › Outputs (or Output › Displays…).
  2. Click Identify displays to see which display is which.
  3. Click Add output.
  4. Choose the Display and the Screen to show.
  5. Turn the output on.

Output settings:

Setting What it does
Mode Fill shows the graphics. Key shows their transparency as white on black, for a keyer.
Key for For a Key output: the Fill output it belongs to.
Background For Fill: Black, Green (chroma green) or a Color of your choice.
Sound Plays the screen’s audio, on the device you choose.
Always on top Keeps the output above other windows.
Test pattern Shows Bars, Grid, Safe areas or the output’s Name instead of the screen. Back to screen returns.

A Fill and a Key output on two neighboring displays with the same size and refresh rate are shown as one window, so they stay frame-locked. The output shows Frame-locked when that works.

You can have up to 8 outputs. They belong to this computer, not to the project. Turn them on and off quickly from the Output menu, or with Output › All outputs off.

Output windows have no frame and no mouse pointer, and you can’t close them by accident. Turn them off in Preferences or the Output menu.

Kinetra doesn’t send NDI or SDI directly. For SDI, use a video card that shows up as a display, or send the browser source through OBS or vMix.

See Nothing shows in OBS or vMix.

The display was unplugged or turned off. Reconnect it, or choose another Display.

The screen was deleted, or a different project is open. Choose another Screen.

A Fill and Key pair only frame-lock when both displays have the same size and refresh rate and sit next to each other.
