Live polls

Run audience polls and show the results on air as the votes come in.

With live polls, your audience votes on their phones at poll.kinetra.live, and the results show on screen as the votes come in.

Running real polls is part of Pro and Team. Anyone can make a test poll to design and rehearse the graphic. See Test polls.

  1. Click Polls in the sidebar (Ctrl+6).
  2. Click New poll.
  3. Type the Question and the Answers (2 to 8). Click Add answer for more.
  4. Optional:
    • Time limit: the poll closes by itself after this time, from 30 seconds to 24 hours. Type it as 2:00, 90, 5m or 1h.
    • Show results to voters: voters see the results after they vote. On by default.
  5. Click Create poll.

The poll is now a Draft. Nobody can vote yet.

  1. Click Open poll. Voting starts.
  2. Share the link. The Vote at panel shows:
    • a 6-character code, such as K7P2QX;
    • the link, such as poll.kinetra.live/K7P2QX, with Copy link;
    • a QR code, with Copy QR image.

Voters open the link or scan the QR code, tap an answer and they’re done. They don’t need an app or an account. Each phone can vote once per poll.

The results update live in Kinetra. Leading marks the answer in front.

  1. Click Close poll to stop voting, or let the time limit close it.

You can Open again a closed poll to let more people vote.

  1. Click Add to screen and pick a screen.

Kinetra adds a Poll graphic to that screen. It shows the question, the answers with growing bars, the QR code and link, and the winner. All its fields follow the poll.

  1. Go to Control and Take the Poll layer.

The bars move as votes come in, also while the graphic is on air. Use Templates and styles to change its look.

You can also use a poll in your own templates: click Use in a source and bind fields to it. See Data sources.

  • Edit the question and answers while the poll is closed and has no votes. If it has votes, Reset votes first.
  • Show results to voters can be changed at any time, also while open.
  • Reset votes deletes all votes, so everyone can vote again.
  • Duplicate makes a copy to run again.
  • Delete removes the poll and its votes at once. Graphics on screen keep showing the final results.

A poll and all its votes are deleted:

  • 12 hours after it closes, or
  • 7 days after it was created, even if it is still open.

A closed poll shows how long it has left, such as Deleted in 11 h. To run the same poll again later, use Duplicate.

The top of the Polls page shows your plan’s limits and how much you’ve used.

Pro Team
Polls open at the same time 3 15
New polls per month 30 50
Votes per poll 500 2,000
Answers per poll 2–8 2–8

Months follow the calendar (UTC). Deleting a poll doesn’t give you one back. When a poll reaches its vote limit it shows Full: it stays on screen but takes no more votes. See kinetra.live/pricing.

Enterprise plans have custom limits. Contact [email protected].

If your plan ends, your existing polls keep working: you can still close, reset and delete them. Creating, editing and opening polls needs Pro or Team.

A test poll works like a real poll, but the votes are simulated on your computer. Nobody can vote, nothing goes over the internet, and it works on every plan. Use it to design the graphic and rehearse the show.

  1. Click New test poll.
  2. Type the question and answers and click Save.
  3. Click Simulate votes. Choose how fast: Slow, Busy or Rush. Under Leading answer, choose Even race or which answer should lead.
  4. Click Add to screen to try the graphic.

Test polls show a Test data chip, and their link, poll.kinetra.live/TEST00, doesn’t take votes.

Voting is anonymous: voters aren’t asked who they are, and the voting site has no analytics or tracking. To count one vote per phone, the voter’s browser gets a small cookie with a random number. Kinetra doesn’t store voters’ IP addresses. Polls and votes are deleted 12 hours after the poll closes, and at the latest 7 days after it was created. Read more in the privacy policy.

  • Keep questions short and answers to a few words: they have to fit on screen and on a phone.
  • Show the QR code on air for at least as long as you want people to vote.
  • Rehearse with a test poll, then create the real poll just before the show.
  • Use a time limit so the poll closes on cue.

Real polls need Pro or Team. Click it to sign in or see the plans. You can still use test polls.

“N polls are open, the most your plan allows. Close one to open this.”

Section titled ““N polls are open, the most your plan allows. Close one to open this.””

Section titled ““This poll is about to be deleted. Duplicate it to run it again.””

The poll is near the end of its 7 days. Use Duplicate.

The results line shows Reconnecting… or Updating every 5 s when the connection is poor. The graphic keeps its last results and catches up by itself. Check your internet connection.
